He said, a fresh face like Azmin would be good for the country, adding that the PKR deputy president was a talented politician.
“There are a lot of people who can be the next PM like (former opposition leader) Anwar Ibrahim, (former PM) Dr Mahathir Mohamad and even a new face like Azmin Ali. He’s a good leader. Or we can even find someone from Amanah.
“There is a lot of talent in all political parties. Umno has (sacked deputy prime minister) Muhyiddin Yassin and (Gua Musang MP) Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, but Tengku seems quiet now.
“This is not for me to decide. I’m just saying that there are a lot of candidates,” he said in an interview today.
According to Zaid, the most important factor in choosing the next PM is that he should not be a member of the team of Prime Minister Najib Razak and his deputy Zahid Hamidi.
The candidate also needed to have enough support to contest against the Najib-led BN in the next General Election, he said, adding that he was confident both Najib and Umno could be defeated.
“The main thing is unity beween all political leaders. There will be challenges, of course. We have to agree on matters such as having a clean government, an effective police department which does not threaten the public, and a transparent judicial system. So we can sit in the same place and agree on the main things on March 27.”
Last week Zaid announced that he would organise a gathering on March 27 of political leaders from various parties, NGOs and individuals who want Najib to step down. So far, he said, Mahathir and Muhyiddin had confirmed they would address that gathering.
