SHAH ALAM:
Selangor DAP Socialist Youth (Dapsy) insists that PAS State Executive Councillors (Exco) resign for failing to abide by the request of Azmin Ali that the Islamist party not contest in the upcoming Sungai Besar by-election.

It’s chief Eric Teh Hoong Kiet said as excos, they should have heeded Azmin’s instruction as he is the Menteri Besar of Selangor.

“If I were them (the Excos), of course I would resign because I did not follow the instructions of the Menteri Besar,” he told a press conference at the Selangor Amanah headquarters here today.

On May 19, The Star reported that Azmin, who is also deputy president of PKR, had told the three state excos from PAS, namely Iskandar Abdul Samad who is also Selangor PAS commissioner; Ahmad Yunus Hairi; and Zaidy Abdul Talib that they must resign if their party insisted on contesting in the Sungai Besar seat.

However Azmin and other PKR excos from Selangor denied issuing such an ultimatum, and called the report “slanderous.”

Last Sunday PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang said he would wait for Azmin’s action on the matter, standing firm with the decision that the three will not resign under any circumstances. He also said he was prepared for the eventuality that PAS may be expelled from the state government.

Yesterday, Pakatan Harapan Chief Secretariat Saifuddin Abdullah said the coalition’s Presidential Council would meet Thursday at Parliament to discuss both the Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar by-elections scheduled on June 18, following the deaths of its MPs in a helicopter crash earlier this month.
