Federal Territories Umno Youth Chief Mohd Razlan Muhammad Rafii, who was present, said the protest was a success as they managed to convey their feelings through a memorandum.
“We showed that we are united and will continue to protest. Do not play around with us,” he told reporters today.
The protesters, mostly donning red shirts, started by marching 1km from the Cheras Umno office while singing “Perajurit Tanah Air”, a popular military song.
They also carried placards inscribed with the words: “(Those) mocking Islam must be punished” and “DAP (is) racist”.
As soon as they arrived in front of the DAP headquarters in Jalan Yew, 30 policemen blocked their way and prevented them from entering the building.
Subsequently, some pushing and shoving between the police and protesters ensued, and a fire cracker was also lit.
The police allowed a small group of the protest leaders to enter the building and meet DAP representative Chu Yoon Ming to hand over their memorandum.
Elaborating further, Razlan said they would give Nga till the end of the month of Syawal to openly apologise to all Muslims in the country over his rude, irresponsible and provocative statement.
He was referring to the caricature reportedly uploaded on Nga’s Facebook page, showing children asking for “dedak” if they could not get “duit raya” for Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
“Nga has incited all of us to come down here to riot,” he said, urging the police to act against Nga for sedition.
“Do not play around with Islam,” he said.
Nga, the Perak DAP chief has denied posting the caricature, claiming it to be the work of cyber troopers.
