PETALING JAYA: Be cautious about supporting anything in the name of Islam.

This is the advice of Perlis Mufti Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin.

In a Facebook post last night, he warned of the perils of blindly supporting any cause in the name of Islam.

Asri said if Muslims simply supported anything in the name of Islam without studying the effects of doing so, it could destroy humanity and the religion, citing the examples of support for Islamic State (Daesh).

His comments come in the wake of a police warning on the existence of a few suicide bombers in Malaysia, ready to blow themselves up for the Islamic State.

Asri said in this day and age, the Islam “brand” existed in various forms and manifested itself in various interests.

“Before we give our support, we must ask, what version of Islam is intended to be implemented? Who will implement it?

“IS also claims to implement its version of Islam. In the end what has happened?

“Is Islam more noble or is it more hated and mocked?”

Asri said IS, in its quest to implement its version of Islam, had not only destroyed the good name of the religion but degraded human rights.
