PUCHONG:
Some Kedah Umno divisional leaders “have had enough” and are considering leaving the party, says Umno rebel Mukhriz Mahathir.

“There has been quite a number of people who hold positions of importance in Umno divisions who have told me in person that they have had enough. And they are seriously considering leaving the party,” he told reporters last night.

He said there may be announcements at the coming Kedah Umno delegates’ meetings similar to the resignations announced at Gelang Patah and Kulai on Saturday when Baharum Abdul Ghani and Tosrin Jarvanti told their divisions they were leaving the party.

Mukhriz said “we might see more of this sort of announcement being taken by some of these leaders”. However, some might not want to burn their bridges.

“I do understand that some of them are unwilling to create conflict in a function like that. So, some of them may support us, but at the same time, remain in Umno. Or, they could leave the party on the quiet, rather than in such a grand way like what happened today (Saturday) in Gelang Patah.”

Mukhriz, who is Kedah assemblyman for Jerlun, was ousted as Kedah Menteri Besar earlier this year and later expelled from the party. He is a vice-president of the new Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia set up by his father, former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
