
In calling for the situation to be handled amicably, the armed forces chief said Malaysia took a serious view of the situation.
The Star reported that Gen Zulkifeli also stressed that cooperation between Asean countries was pertinent to handle the threat.
The meeting earlier this week was part of Gen Zulkifeli’s itinerary with his Asean counterparts before he retires.
He met his counterpart Senior Gen Min Aung Hlaing in which both men discussed a host of issues.
Malaysia and Myanmar are currently embroiled in a spat over the Rohingya issue after Prime Minister Najib Razak last weeked led a protest against the oppression of the Rohingya community in Myanmar.
Myanmar has stopped sending workers to Muslim-majority Malaysia as relations sour over a military crackdown on the country’s Rohingya minority.
The move came after Najib lashed out at Myanmar’s de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi for allowing “genocide”, during the rally in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday that drew thousands of people.
