PETALING JAYA:
Amanah’s Khalid Samad has expressed disappointment that none of the individuals who attacked him on Parliament grounds were present at a recent identification parade arranged by police.

Khalid said he had seen his main assailants on CCTV footage and in pictures of the scuffle, and it was clear they were absent from the parade.

“I didn’t see the main assailants in the parade. It was that guy wearing a blue-and-white checkered shirt and another wearing a coat.

“And the son of the deputy minister was not there as well. It is very disappointing. Most of them were just bystanders,” he told FMT.

Last year, on Nov 24, Khalid, who is Shah Alam MP and Amanah communications director, was attacked by an angry mob as he was entering Parliament.

Fortunately, Khalid was shielded from the mob of 30 people by security officers.

Khalid said the police should have known the identities of the mob members as all were required to register their names and IC number before they were allowed to enter Parliament grounds.

“I did tell the police that I don’t see the need for an identification parade because the identities of the assailants were obviously known to the police.

“In fact, these ‘assailants’ had also surrendered themselves to the police a day after the scuffle.

“If the police had given the case enough priority, it should have already been settled by now.”

Among those reported to be in the mob was the son of Deputy Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister and Pasir Salak MP Tajuddin Abdul Rahman. It is believed that others in the mob were Umno Youth members from Pasir Salak.

They were there to show their displeasure at Khalid, who had called Tajuddin “menteri sial” (damned minister) after Tajuddin referred to Seputeh MP Teresa Kok as “the only woman with a Kok” in Parliament.

Khalid urged Attorney-General Apandi Ali to view the matter seriously as it involved the security of Parliament.

He also said Dewan Rakyat speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia should take action against Tajuddin for bringing in unruly guests.

“The speaker must find ways to stop such incidents from recurring. If not, others will bring their supporters to Parliament and there will be chaos.”
