PETALING JAYA: Kedah opposition leader Amiruddin Hamzah has defected from PAS to PPBM.

Amiruddin is also Anak Bukit PAS assemblyperson.

This was announced on PPBM deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir’s Facebook today together with pictures of him welcoming the PAS assemblyman.

In a speech streamed live over Facebook, Amiruddin said he wanted to face BN in the 14th general election as a united force in Pakatan Harapan.

He said his decision to join PPBM was also prompted by his realisation that PAS would not want to work with PH in GE14 to put up a credible opposition against BN.

Earlier, Amiruddin had been anticipated to join Amanah, which is also part of PH, just like PPBM. Amanah has many former PAS members.

PH now has nine assemblymen in the Kedah state assembly, PAS has seven and BN 20.

Amiruddin had stunned the state PAS leadership in May last year when he suddenly resigned from his post as the party’s Kuala Kedah division chief. He did not give any reasons for his decision.
