KUALA LUMPUR:
The 14th general election (GE14) was one of the issues discussed during DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng’s visit to former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim in hospital yesterday, Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo says.

Speaking at a press conference in Parliament here today, Gobind said the meeting was for two purposes.

“One, to check on Anwar’s health and his recovery process.

“The second was regarding Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) preparations for GE14,” he said, adding that it had been a pleasant meeting.

Anwar’s shoulder injury was originally due to an accident in 2014 in Desa Sri Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur.

He underwent physiotherapy but the pain became worse over time.

His condition deteriorated following an accident on Sept 22, when an escort vehicle rammed into the back of the prison transport ferrying him from Kuala Lumpur Hospital back to prison.

Anwar is currently serving a five-year jail term after the Federal Court upheld a conviction of sodomy involving his former aide, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.

Gobind said another issue discussed between Lim and Anwar was the PH retreat, which is a closed-door meeting scheduled for tomorrow in Putrajaya.

“This meeting will be attended by all PH leaders, and we will discuss policy matters as well as objectives of the coalition which will be announced after the meeting.”

However, Lim was coy when asked about the retreat.

“What retreat are you talking about?” he said. “I know about it, but I am not supposed to say anything about it.”
