Residents of several districts in Sabah reportedly heard a loud explosion, but police say no complaints were lodged.

BEAUFORT (Sabah): Social media has been abuzz about a loud explosion in several districts of Sabah on Sunday, but police said they did not receive any complaints.

Social media users claimed to have heard the noise in Beaufort, Sipitang, Membakut, and Kuala Penyu districts on Sunday morning.

However, district police chief Azmir Abd Razak said no complaints from the public had been received. His fellow police chiefs in Sipitang and Labuan similarly reported that they did not receive any reports about the noise, like that of an explosion.

“As long as we do not know where the purported bombing took place, we cannot open an investigation,” he said.

A spokesman for the Royal Malaysian Navy denied that the loud explosion was from a military exercise. He said the exercise had ended on Thursday.
