Ahmad Bashah said the expenditure covered the overall operation involving the state football team for various competitions, such as the Youth Cup, President Cup and the 2017 Super League, apart from training and development.
“However, this is only an initial budget. We will manage our expenditure prudently and ensure it is capped at below RM27 million,” he said when introducing the 2017 KFA squad and its sponsors here today.
Ahmad Bashah, who is Kedah menteri besar, also welcomed the private sector to come forward as contributors to KFA to ensure the continued brilliant run of the 2016 Malaysia Cup winner.
He said state-linked companies like Bina Darulaman Berhad had contributed RM12 million, Kedah State Development Corporation (PKNK) RM3 million and Syarikat Air Darulaman Berhad RM2 million so far.
In this regard, he said Kedah had filled its quota of four import players when it confirmed signing Zachary Michael Anderson of Australia to play in the defence and Ken Ilso Larsen of Denmark as striker for the 2017 Super League.
Two old import players, Sandro Da Silva of Brazil and Liridon Krasniqi of Kosovo, have been retained.
Ahmad Bashah said Kedah hoped to retain the Malaysia Cup title it won last year and wanted all players to give their best this season.
At the ceremony, Kedah introduced 26 players for their 2017 Super League squad, including two local players — Mohd Fitri Omar of Penang and Muhamad Akram Mahinan, who had played for JDT earlier.
