This new offering by the Serai Group, which opened in August at The Glades Plaza in Putra Heights, serves 12 decadent and exciting gelato flavours.
With palm trees and a beautiful fountain surrounded by pebble stones outside, this is the perfect ambience to escape the afternoon sun and dig into some indulgent frozen treats.
From classics such as pistachio, vanilla and chocolate to more inventive flavours such as the guava asam boi sorbet, apple pie and sirap bandung, Taffy Gelato has a bit of something for everyone.
“My whole life I’ve been surrounded by entrepreneurs. So, I’ve always wanted to start a business of my own. I decided on gelato because who doesn’t like ice cream?” Atiqah Taff, the gelateria’s co-founder, told FMT Lifestyle recently.
“Also, I’ve always had a sweet tooth. My mom told me I was the only child in the family who would go to a corner and eat ice cream by myself. And I have fond memories of my late grandfather who also had a sweet tooth,” she added.
Atiqah is also the head of marketing for the Serai Group and the daughter of the Serai Group’s founder, Rina Abdullah.

For the uninitiated, gelato is made with more milk and less cream and egg yolks, and is churned at a slow speed to incorporate less air. This gives gelato its denser, silkier texture. It is served at a slightly warmer temperature.
Ice cream, on the other hand, is made with more cream and egg yolks, and is churned at a high speed to incorporate more air. It is served cold and has a smooth, light texture.
Equally as exciting is how the gelato here is served. You can enjoy a scoop on a crispy Belgian waffle or snugly tucked into a buttery croissant or brioche bun.
But fret not, gelato purists! The gelateria serves its gelato the traditional way too in cups and waffle cones.

They say one way to judge how good a gelateria is, is to taste its pistachio flavour. Taffy Gelato passed with flying colours as its pistachio gelato was nutty and buttery.
Pistachio-flavoured anything can get overwhelming in its decadence but this was done just right. Have it in a warm croissant and taste how the nutty notes of the pistachio complement the buttery flakiness of the croissant.
A must-try Taffy Gelato flavour is their bubblegum pink sirap bandung offering. A spoonful is enough to remind you of those many glasses of sirap bandung you enjoy at the mamak stall.
Taffy Gelato’s sirap bandung signature rose flavour hits you immediately, and the milkiness brings everything together beautifully.

The asam boi sorbet is another flavour that would tickle your local taste buds. Sour, fruity and refreshing, this flavour will particularly remind you of your childhood. Remember eating sour asam boi as a kid? Have a sneaky surprise as you bite into bits of asam boi in every spoonful of this gelato.
The mango cheesecake is a notable flavour, too. Dense and milky, every spoonful felt exactly like eating a mango cheesecake. The addition of fresh mango puree elevates the flavour that would otherwise be ordinary. Graham cracker toppings complete the cheesecake experience.
Taffy Gelato offers a delightful array of flavours, creative serving options, and a tranquil atmosphere. Whether you’re craving a serene afternoon retreat or a post-dinner dessert haunt, Taffy Gelato is worth checking out.
