Graceful, cute-as-a-button and always smiling are the most used adjectives to describe a Samoyed. Gentle and with a good temperament, these dogs make for a great pet if you want a playful companion.
Aaron Teng, 32, got his Samoyed three years ago, and Tokyo has become the apple of his eye since. And his wife loves the fluffy canine just as much.
Clearly the feelings are mutual because Tokyo prefers the company of humans over canines, being rather picky about who among her doggy friends she hangs out with.
Why the name Tokyo, though?
“We named her Tokyo after the fictional character portrayed by Úrsula Corberó in ‘Money Heist’, because we want her to be like the character, fearless but playful,” Teng said.
As for her fellow doggos, Tokyo’s gentle and sweet with the little pups but plays rough and tough with dogs that match her size.
It’s a wonder how fast she makes friends – no doubt that’s the classic Samoyed charm in action.
The three-year-old can be quite a diva, though, when it comes to treats and toys.
Knowing exactly what she wants and not afraid to show it, watching her express her preferences is a total joy for Teng and his wife every day.
A party animal (literally) through and through, Tokyo likes to play outdoors like any other energetic furkid.
Always “outgoing and ready for fun”, she can be quite dominant at times, showing her displeasure when other dogs show up at her favourite hangout spots and gardens.
Tokyo adores all kinds of jerky and chews. Fruits, however, are just not her jam, so you won’t find her munching on bananas and apples anytime soon!
Carefree as she is, Tokyo has her fears too, and topping the list is a rather strange one – hula hoops. If you’re holding one, she’ll avoid you at all costs – and only she knows why.
But this beauty has brains too! Teng said Tokyo knows quite a number of cool tricks – sit, shake hands, balance treats on her nose, spin, lie down and more.
“On top of that, she loves to dance with her (human) mama!”
And unlike many dogs who love to snuggle up with their humans in bed, Tokyo prefers the cold floor, thank you very much!
“Honestly, she sleeps like a cat. She has all these funny positions when she sleeps that never fails to make us laugh,” Teng chuckled, shaking his head.
Since Teng’s work regularly keeps him on the road between Penang and Kuala Lumpur, he is happy that Tokyo has become his trusty travel companion.
“Sometimes, we even forget she’s sitting in the back seat because of how quiet she is, hence why she’s a perfect and adorable travel buddy for us.”
And this smart beauty knows how to communicate effectively with her humans too. When she needs a toilet break, she gently places her chin on one of their shoulders or goes on an ear-licking spree.
“She’s not really a dog to us, but truly a very well-behaved furkid,” Teng said, smiling.
