KUALA SELANGOR:
Located by the serene Selangor River at Dataran Ixora, just a stone’s throw away from the famous Sky Mirror Kuala Selangor, Hab’s Coffee is a cosy escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.

This charming roadside container coffee spot invites passers-by with its tantalising aromas and chill vibe.

Whether you’re looking for a refreshing pick-me-up or a place to unwind with friends, this spot provides a unique blend of beverages, hearty meals, and friendly service that keeps customers coming back for more.

At the heart of Hab’s Coffee is entrepreneur Muhammad Danieal Amran, 23, from Kuala Selangor. Three years ago, he opened Hab’s Coffee’s first branch, a roadside stall in front of Lotus’s Kuala Selangor.

“I have always wanted my own business but I didn’t know what to do,” he said.

The youngest of five siblings, his breakthrough moment came while researching various food businesses in Indonesia. That’s when he discovered the popularity of roadside coffee joints offering café-style coffee.

Recognising a gap in the market here, Danieal launched Hab’s Coffee, bringing a novel concept to his hometown. He named the coffee joint after his late mother, Habsah. The name “Hab” also means love in Arabic.

“We serve good quality coffee and we have some unique flavours. People love coming here because no one else is doing something like this,” he said, smiling.

With business flourishing, he opened a second branch in February 2023, situated by the river. While his brother manages the first branch, Danieal and his friend take care of this riverside joint.

This new location attracts both locals and visitors. It becomes a bustling hub, especially late at night when the younger crowd gathers to unwind and socialise.

The late-night hours cater perfectly to those seeking a relaxed spot to hang out, making it a vital part of the nightlife here. Hab’s Coffee also attracts families and older folks looking for hot meals and drinks.

Ultimately, what draws people to this quaint coffee joint is its warm and inviting atmosphere.

“We make it a point to make friends with everyone and treat them nicely. Doesn’t matter whether you are young or old, a male or a female. We are friendly with everyone. I just wanted to create a great hang out spot,” he shared.

Danieal also writes inspirational messages on the plastic cups he serves his drinks in, a gesture he noted “is very popular among my younger customers. They just love it.”

FMT Lifestyle had the chance to sample some of his signature offerings. The food menu is simple but satisfying, with three options: chicken wraps, pasta carbonara, and pasta aglio olio.

The chicken wrap hides a delicious sauce inside and is laced with lettuce for a nice crunch. The carbonara is creamy and cheesy with a generous helping of chicken sausage. Both received the thumbs up!

The standout drink on the menu is the Black Mango, a unique concoction by Danieal himself – espresso shots, mango syrup, and a good splash of Sprite. This may seem like an odd combo, but the drink delivers a refreshing and unexpected flavour profile. If you’re not into coffee, this may not be your cup of tea.

The strawberry matcha, on the other hand, will please Japanese green tea drinkers. The taste of the strawberry syrup is subtle and blends well with the matcha. Pro tip: properly stir the strawberry syrup at the bottom and let the drink sit for a minute or two for the flavours to mix and mingle before drinking.

Looking ahead, Danieal has big ambitions. “I’m planning to open a third stall somewhere outside of Kuala Selangor,” he revealed, adding that his ultimate dream was to have his very own café someday.

“God-willing, I will be able to do that,” he concluded.
