Having started off as a simple family-owned bakery-cum-café in Bukit Tunku in Kuala Lumpur, Kenny Hill Bakers has since gone above and beyond in both service and reach, opening its sixth and biggest outlet in IOI City Mall in Putrajaya.
Not only does this outlet cater to a far larger number of customers at any given time, it also has some menu items exclusive to this outlet.
FMT visited this newest branch of the bakery shortly after its opening and can indeed confirm that this is a foodie hangout worth visiting.
Located at the mall’s East Wing, the bakery offers customers a breathtaking view of the surrounding hills. Upon stepping inside, you’ll be greeted by the many classic pastries for which Kenny Hills Bakers is famous for.
For easy identification, loaves of bread sitting pretty on the left side of the shelf are on the sweet side, whereas those on the right are savoury. Thus, you have everything from croissants on the left and sausage rolls, tuna puffs and sourdough loaves on the right.
Further down, you’ll get a glimpse of the display cabinet filled with chilled cakes and tarts of every shape and form. Everything looks mouthwatering and some of these pastries are hard to find elsewhere.
You’ll struggle to choose between the saccharine-sweet pavlova, the tangy strawberry tarts and fruity peach strudels as well as the classic key lime pie.
It’s hard to miss the main draw however, given its imposing structure that dominates the centre of the room. This is the bakery’s unique woodfire pizza oven, where pans of delicious pizza, oftentimes made from scratch, are expertly slid into the hot flames to cook.
In line with this open concept, the goings-on of the main bakery at the very back is visible to public view as well. Last but not least is the coffee bar, where the barista will be happy to serve you any hot brew of your choice, morning, noon or night.
In addition to the pastries and cakes on display, some menu items are worth checking out – like the Corned Beef Egg in a Hole, a dish exclusive to this outlet.
A seemingly simple-looking dish, it is super tasty, made all the more delicious with the corned beef offering its salty, spicy and beefy flavours to the mix of egg and warm toast.
The second exclusive offering is the Mixed Berry French Toast, looking just as pretty as it tastes. Served with an assortment of berries, nuts and a scoop of ice-cream on French toast, this is one sure way to start your day on a sweet note.
While you may be excited to try the baked goods here, be warned that lines can get pretty long here, due to the high public interest.
In fact, outlet manager Ashraf Farhan Yap said: “From the minute we start, before we open at 10.00am, there’s already a queue building outside by 9.30am.”
That alone is a clear indication of just how good the bakes and breads are here – so what are you waiting for? Get into your car already!
