KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a man and seized weapons and documents relating to the Islamic State terrorist organisation, said the Inspector-General, Khalid Abu Bakar, in a Twitter posting.

He said the man was caught at the Jelatek LRT station in Ampang on suspicion of being involved in the terrorist organisation.

“Syabas E8 CK @PDRMsia semlm tkap 1 disyaki elemen IS di LRT Jelatik, Ampg. Senjata dan dokumen IS dirampas,” he said in his posting.

E8 is the police designation for the counter-terrorism unit of the Special Branch.

The arrest comes in the wake of news that two Malaysians were the suicide bombers who killed more than 30 people separately in Syria and Iraq recently.

Police have heightened security measures after a suicide bomb attack at a Jakarta shopping mall earlier this week.

Extra security measures have been put in place at shopping malls, tourist areas and at the borders.
