Its chairman, Affendi Zahari, said the project, dubbed “The Saloma Link”, is a 68m long pedestrian bridge between Lorong Raja Muda Musa 3 (near the LRT Kampung Baru Station) and Lorong Saloma (near Menara Public Bank) across the Akleh Highway.
He said the project is scheduled to kick off its construction by the year end and will be completed within a year-and-a-half.
Affendi said an initial cost of RM20 million was allocated for the planned project.
“This is not just an ordinary bridge, it would be one of the iconic developments in KL. I’m confident that the project would attract more locals and tourists to Kampung Baru,” he told Bernama when met recently.
He said when the bridge is completed with its amazing architecture, it would be more than just an ordinary bridge.
Affendi said the bridge would be installed with state of the art lighting system that would highlight the uniqueness of the bridge at night, similar to the Bridge of Peace in Tbilisi, Georgia.
Even the angle of the bridge was set to give the most satisfying view of the tallest twin towers in the world and the best area for foreigners to take their photos, he added.
He said the bridge architectural concept would resemble “Sirih Junjung” (betel nut leaf arrangement) which reflected the Malay culture.
Commenting further, Affendi said Kampung Baru was being redeveloped bit-by-bit due to the complex nature of land ownership in the area and PKB had to be flexible in developing Kampung Baru.
It was previously reported that Kampung Baru would undergo a RM43 billion facelift over the next 20 years.
