Ahmad Senabil Mohamad, a third-year student in human resources management, had witnessed Zulfarhan being tortured with a steam iron in room 4-10 of the UPNM hostel between 4am and 6am on May 22, 2017.
“Help! It’s hot!” he shouted when asked by deputy public prosecutor Othman Abdullah to re-enact the incident on the 12th day of trial at the High Court.
Exclamations of “Allahuakhbar” and “Astaghfirullahalazim” could be heard from the public gallery, which was filled with family members of the victim and the accused, as well as media and members of the public.
Zulfarhan’s mother was seen crying as Ahmad Senabil, 22, re-enacted the scene.
Ahmad Senabil, who is the 24th prosecution witness, said he had gone to room 4-10 at about midnight.
In the room, Abdoul Hakeem Mohd Ali, who is the sixth suspect, asked Zulfarhan several questions. However, the victim was said to have “twisted” his replies, following which Abdoul Hakeem punched him twice in the stomach. Another accused, Muhammad Danial Firdaus Azmir, also hit Zulfarhan after that.
Ahmad Senabil said Abdoul Hakeem later ordered Zulfarhan to take off his pants, and continued to hit him. A short while later, more than 10 other individuals entered the room.
The witness said aside from punching and kicking the victim, who was wearing only boxer shorts, Abdoul Hakeem had hit him with a shirt hanger while Danial Firdaus used a trash spade on him.
He said during the beating, Zulfarhan said he had not taken the laptop. However, Abdoul Hakeem and Danial Firdaus continued the assault, he added.
