PETALING JAYA:
Former Melaka chief minister Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik is considering legal action against a DAP politician in the state for accusing him of involvement in “past scandals”.

This comes after Kota Melaka MP Khoo Poay Tiong protested any move to accept Rahim’s application to join PPBM.

“The action of DAP and PKR, in their attempt to prevent PPBM from accepting me as a member, by pressure and threat to Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, is undemocratic and cowardly,” Rahim, who quit Umno on Sunday, said on Twitter.

“This can’t be allowed. Should they succeed, the internal matters of other component parties too will be subject to intervention.”

Rahim claimed the “collaboration” to prevent him from becoming a PPBM member was due to a “sense of guilty conscience” in leaders from political parties who “persecuted him in a despicable political conspiracy”.

“This prevention is a cover up,” he added.

Khoo had warned against taking in the former Melaka chief minister hours after Rahim handed over his membership form to PPBM.

In the 1990s, Rahim had a run-in with DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, the then-Kota Melaka MP, who had been jailed after being convicted of false news.

Lim had accused Rahim of statutory rape. The Umno politician was not prosecuted for lack of evidence, but eventually resigned as chief minister.

When contacted by FMT, Khoo said he would wait for Rahim to decide whether to initiate legal action against him.

He said he would only take further action if Rahim decides to do so.

“We will wait for the next development because he is still considering it.”
