PM to meet petrol dealers ahead of weekly price float

This comes amid calls by petrol dealers to raise their sales commission to cover the anticipated higher cost of operation.

Fuel prices will revert to a weekly revision on Jan 1.
PUTRAJAYA:
Dr Mahathir Mohamad will meet petroleum dealers tomorrow to discuss the government’s decision to revise fuel prices on a weekly basis.

The prime minister said the meeting with the Petroleum Dealers Association of Malaysia (PDAM) would focus on how to resolve its concerns after the weekly fuel price float begins on Jan 1.

“Yes they came to see us, we will talk to them and we are trying to solve the problem. We will find out how best to resolve the problem,” he told reporters at the end of the PPBM general assembly here.

Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng had announced that fuel prices, including for RON 95 petrol, will be fixed on a weekly basis.

This was followed by PDAM urging the government to raise their members’ sales commission for fuel to cover the anticipated higher cost of operation.

Asked on concerns of a fuel shortage after the weekly fuel price float comes into effect, Mahathir said he could only give his assurance that it would be sufficient.

“You are always asking for assurance, yes I can only give my word, (but) if it is not enough, what can I do?”
