KUALA LUMPUR: More than 90% of PKR branch chiefs, or 198 out of 219, are reported to have pledged their support for party president Anwar Ibrahim.
Kangar PKR branch chief Noor Amin Ahmad who spoke for the group said as grassroots leaders they felt it incumbent on them to diffuse claims that the party was on the verge of imploding.
“We are committed in our support for Anwar Ibrahim to lead the country as the eighth Prime Minister as had been agreed among Pakatan Harapan leaders prior to the 14th general election,” he told a special media conference here today.
He said the branch chiefs made the pledge on their own initiative without any compulsion.
The remaining 10% who did not join the group were either busy or abroad or did not respond to messages, he added.
