JOHOR BAHRU:
About 2.4ha of forest land near the Legoland Theme Park and a hotel at Iskandar Puteri near here caught fire yesterday afternoon.

Larkin Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Ahmad Nazran Omar said the fire department received a call at 4.25pm and sent an engine with six firefighters to the scene.

The firemen were assisted by the emergency response teams from Legoland and Medini Iskandar, he said in a statement.

He said the cause of the fire and losses were being ascertained.

Meanwhile, about 16ha of forest land along Jalan Tanjung Kupang at Kampung Pekajang, Gelang Patah, have been engulfed in flames for the past two days.

Johor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director R Saiful Iswandy R Hassan said 10 engines with 70 personnel were trying to put out the flames.

“Initially, the fire affected only 4ha of forest land but it has spread to 16ha,” he said in a statement, adding that a trench was being dug to prevent it from spreading.

He said the cause of the fire was under investigation.

Johor Housing, Communications and Multimedia Committee chairman Dzulkefly Ahmad said the situation was under control.
