The head of Bukit Aman’s counter-terrorism division, Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay will be the new Johor police chief.

PETALING JAYA:
The head of Bukit Aman’s counter-terrorism division, Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, has been appointed as the new Johor police chief.

He replaces Mohd Kamaruddin Md Din, who has been moved to the administrative department at Bukit Aman’s management division.

The transfer is effective from March 6 and Ayob will be promoted to the commissioner of police rank.

The decision comes almost a week after allegations that police had stood by when an abusive mob gathered outside a restaurant in Ulu Tiram on Jan 31 where Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman was attending an event with PPBM Youth members.

Abdul Hannaan Khairy, a PPBM Youth exco member, had claimed that Syed Saddiq’s political secretary approached some policemen nearby to ask for assistance but nothing happened.

“I am made to understand that Syed Saddiq called Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador to inform him of what was happening.

“And about 15 minutes later, the chief of the police station and several uniformed personnel entered the site,” Hannaan had said in a statement.
