
He estimated that the number of crimes had dropped by 40% to 50%.
“These criminals want to take advantage of the MCO. We arrested two people today on suspicion of breaking and entering, and we have also solved a few cases around Petaling Jaya.
“While we are implementing Ops Covid-19, we have not forgotten our regular duties to curb crime.
“The number of cases has dropped significantly but we will not be complacent,” he said at a press conference in Taman Dato Harun today.
Nik Ezanee said the Armed Forces would help the police in their duties during Ops Covid-19. They will start by helping at roadblocks for now and other duties will be announced soon.
“I was made to understand that the army will be carrying weapons but will not be using them during roadblock operations. Our task is to educate and advise the public about the dangers of Covid-19,” he said.
Nik Ezanee added that his officers had received information about the tabligh convention at Sri Petaling mosque last month, but could not disclose the number of people who were from Petaling Jaya.
The tabligh convention was the source of a spike in the number of Covid-19 infections, and now comprise about 60% of all cases.
