
In a Facebook live video, he said considering one or two MPs with exceptional credentials for such positions would be acceptable.
“But if you make it a rule that every single MP will be given additional positions, perks and offices when people are struggling to eat… this, to me, is a crime, and we will oppose it.”
He was responding to Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Takiyuddin Hassan, who said last week that all MPs from the government who do not hold government positions would be appointed as heads of GLCs.
He said the problem with the Perikatan Nasional government was that it lacked a cohesive central message.
“You talk about helping the poor, and you talk about economic hardships.
“At the same time, you talk about protecting the interests of MPs and your cronies. This has to stop,” he said.
Anwar added that while the previous Pakatan Harapan administration had had political appointees of its own, they had possessed “impressive academic and professional credentials”.
He also said PH had not made it a rule that every appointment to GLCs must be political in nature.
“Although we can be questioned about some of these decisions, certainly the excesses that the government proposes now are unprecedented and indefensible.”
