The number of cases in the Klang Valley and Negeri Sembilan have been rising at a faster rate than Sabah.

PUTRAJAYA:
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah today said the Covid-19 situation in Sabah and Labuan is beginning to stabilise, following a declining trend in cases in the last few days.

“In Sabah, many zones and districts have turned green and we hope that in another one or two weeks, we will be able to have the situation under control,” he said during his daily Covid-19 briefing.

However, he said the health ministry was concerned over the rising number of infections in the peninsula, particularly in the Klang Valley and Negeri Sembilan, which had 224 and 240 new cases respectively today.

He said it was difficult to monitor all six million people leaving and entering the Klang Valley, which was one of the reasons why the conditional movement control order (CMCO) was imposed on most of the peninsula states.

“The number of cases in the Klang Valley and Negeri Sembilan have been rising at a faster rate than Sabah, so we need to increase our active case detection in these areas which have high density and mobility.

“Although other places such as Melaka and Johor did not show an increase in cases, our worry is that people from Negeri Sembilan might travel inter-state and infect these areas.”

He added that the CMCO in Kedah, Perak, Melaka and Johor might be lifted earlier if the situation in these states improved in the next two weeks.

With regards to the 400 people who fled the enhanced MCO placed on Medan 88, Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi in Sepang, Selangor, Noor Hisham suspected they were mainly undocumented migrants who feared being arrested and placed in detention centres.

Meanwhile, he also announced that all buildings in Putrajaya and its surroundings would be lit up in blue tonight, in support and appreciation of the country’s frontliners.

“With cooperation from the Putrajaya Corporation, from 7pm tonight until Nov 15, ‘LightUpBlue@Putrajaya’ will take place,” he said.

Noor Hisham’s announcement of the programme comes a day after he was accused by MP Tiong King Sing of not providing moral support to frontliners in Sabah.
