Of the 2,234 infections, 1,428 were detected in Selangor. The previous record high was 2,188 infections in a day.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 1,112 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 66,236.

In a statement, Noor Hisham said the 2,234 cases bring the total number of infections in the country to 78,499.

Noor Hisham said most of the cases in Selangor were from the Seruling workplace cluster, which recorded 842 infections today. Another 315 came from the Hentian cluster involving Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Negeri Sembilan.

He said the cases in Selangor were expected to remain high, with widespread screenings for foreign workers currently taking place.

Noor Hisham added that close contact screenings and active case detection were still being carried out on the field, with all positive cases isolated in the newly-reactivated Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) field hospital and Hospital Sungai Buloh.

Sabah and Kuala Lumpur recorded 274 and 136 infections, respectively, with the majority of the cases coming from existing clusters.

On the three deaths, Noor Hisham said they were all Malaysians, two of whom were from Sabah and one from Labuan. They were aged between 26 and 72, with two of them having a history of chronic illnesses.

There are currently 11,867 active cases with 124 patients receiving intensive care, of which 60 require respiratory assistance.

Perlis and Labuan did not record any new cases today.
