Earlier this month, Pejuang had filed for a judicial review at the High Court requesting for the party to be registered within seven days after the court ruling according to Section 7 of the Societies Act 1996.

PETALING JAYA:
Pejuang, which is facing an unusual delay in its registration by the Registrar of Societies (RoS), is open to contesting on other party tickets if the need arises in GE15.

Party leader Mukhriz Mahathir said among the options would be Sabah-based Warisan, adding that its candidates would not stand as independents.

Speaking at a Sinar Harian forum yesterday, Mukhriz said Warisan was a possible option in the event that Pejuang’s registration was left unapproved by the RoS.

“We will not be contesting as independent candidates. At best, we must be part of a political party. There are several options and we will consider the matter,” he said in response to a question on whether Warisan was able to expand to the Peninsula.

Asked about Pejuang’s preparations for GE15, the Jerlun MP said the party had yet to decide on its next course of action.

“We need to be rational and cut our coat according to our cloth. We cannot set too high a target without having the ability to achieve it. Fighting alone is difficult, but a decision on this will be made before GE15.”

The former Kedah menteri besar also stressed that his party had not received any official letter from the RoS, despite fulfilling all the requirements and having met the department’s officers to discuss the issue.

Earlier this month, Pejuang had filed for a judicial review at the High Court, with pro-tem secretary-general Amiruddin Hamzah requesting for the party to be registered within seven days after the court ruling according to Section 7 of the Societies Act 1996.

According to Mukhriz, the court has set Jan 7 next year for mention.
