3-month moratorium extension for PTPTN borrowers hit by pandemic

The corporation says those unable to resume their repayment may apply for the extension.

The higher education ministry says those unable to resume their PTPTN loan repayment may apply for a three-month extension.
PETALING JAYA:
The government will extend the loan moratorium for National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) borrowers still affected by the Covid-19 pandemic for a further three months.

In a statement, the higher education ministry said borrowers unable to continue with their loan repayment may apply for the extension on PTPTN’s website.

“This decision was made as the government is aware of PTPTN borrowers who are still affected by Covid-19 and remain unable to repay their loans,” said Higher Education Minister Noraini Ahmad.

Before this, a moratorium on repayment was granted to all PTPTN borrowers from March 19 to Dec 31, 2020.

There had been calls for the government to extend the moratorium, and in November, Noraini said her ministry was discussing the matter with the finance ministry.

Borrowers who wish to apply for an extension may do so between Jan 5 and March 31. The extended moratorium will take effect from the date an application is approved.

Those with queries may contact the PTPTN Careline at 03-2193 3000 from Monday to Friday, between 9am and 5pm.
