Record high of 2,593 Covid-19 cases, 4 deaths

There are 24,347 active cases with 141 patients being treated in intensive care and 67 requiring respiratory assistance.

PUTRAJAYA:
The health ministry has reported a new record high of 2,593 Covid-19 cases, as well as four deaths in the past 24 hours.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 1,129 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 100,578.

In a press conference, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 125,438.

There are 24,347 active cases with 141 patients being treated in intensive care and 67 requiring respiratory assistance.

Meanwhile, the four deaths bring the number of fatalities to 513.

The four dead were all Malaysians, aged between 50 and 73, two of whom were from Sabah and one each from Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. All four had pre-existing medical conditions.

Of the new cases today, only four were imported while 2,589 were local infections.

Selangor notched a record high 965 cases today, followed by Johor and Sabah with 571 and 405 infections.

Kuala Lumpur reported 265 cases, followed by Negeri Sembilan (125), Penang (77), Kelantan (43), Kedah (42), Perak (34), Terengganu (19), Melaka (13), Pahang (11), Putrajaya (9), Labuan (9) and Sarawak (5). Perlis remained the only state with no new infections.

The local infections today were detected from new and existing clusters, close contact screenings and other Covid-19 screenings.

Only 81 cases today were from clusters in detention centres and prison, most of which came from the Jalan Harapan Prison cluster.
