In a statement today, the committee said the MCO will take effect from Jan 16 until Jan 29, and will cover the districts of Sibu, Kanowit and Selangau.
The rules for the lockdown will be announced tomorrow.
“The decision was made following the surge in Covid-19 cases in Sibu, with a total 439 cases reported in the last 14 days, including 150 cases today.
“Out of the 150 cases reported in Sibu today, 148 are linked to the Pasai Cluster,” it said.
The cluster originated from a funeral in a longhouse in Sibu, which was attended by a woman (the index case) who had returned from Johor on Dec 29 last year.
The committee also announced that all travellers intending to enter Sarawak from the peninsula, Sabah and Labuan must undergo RT-PCR screening three days before entering the state, Bernama reported.
“The test result must be negative and must be submitted with the enter Sarawak application. This directive is effective Jan 16,” said the statement.
Today, Sarawak recorded three-digits new cases for the fourth straight day in a row with 180 cases reported, the highest daily number reported thus far.
The figure brought Sarawak’s tally of positive Covid-19 cases to 1,920.
