PETALING JAYA:
Senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said police arrested 608 people yesterday over movement control order-related offences.

Of that number, 580 were slapped with compound fines while 27 were remanded and one was released on bail.

Ismail said among the offences were failure to wear face masks, crossing districts or states without permission and failing to provide materials for contact tracing or registration.

A total of 2,436 compliance task force teams were deployed to conduct checks on supermarkets, restaurants, hawker stalls, factories, banks, among other places.

Ismail also said police arrested 17 illegal immigrants and seized seven vehicles under Op Benteng.

He added that 105,849 people had arrived through KLIA from July 24 to Jan 16 from various countries.

A total of 540 people were sent to hospital for treatment, while 96,768 were allowed to return home and 8,541 are currently undergoing mandatory quarantine.
