School in Perak under lockdown tomorrow

This follows 24 positive Covid-19 cases detected there.

The school will be under EMCO until Feb 19.
PETALING JAYA:
SMK Sultan Idris Shah II in Gerik, Perak will be put under an enhanced movement control order (EMCO) effective tomorrow following 24 positive Covid-19 cases recorded there so far.

Senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the EMCO will last until Feb 19.

“The EMCO will help the health ministry conduct targeted screenings at the school and control infections within the community,” he said in a statement today.

Aside from the school, two villages in Sarawak, Kampung Sebako 1 and 2, will also be placed under an EMCO tomorrow.

The EMCO at the two villages will also last until Feb 19. So far, the health ministry has conducted 790 screenings, and a total of 31 cases have been reported.

Residents there are not allowed to leave the area and all social, religious, economic and cultural activities are prohibited.

Meanwhile, Ismail also announced that the EMCO affecting Kampung Sungai Ud and Kampung Sungai Ud Hilir in Dalat, Sarawak will be extended until Feb 16.

On the number of arrests yesterday, Ismail said the police arrested 747 people over MCO-related offences. Some 723 people were given compounds and 24 were remanded.

The offences include failure to wear face masks (159), crossing state or district borders without permission (113), flouting physical-distancing rules (140), failure to provide materials for contact tracing or registration (156), premises operating beyond permitted hours/despite not being allowed to operate (50), leaving the house without a valid reason (41), and others (88).

A total of 3,204 compliance task force teams were deployed to conduct checks on supermarkets, restaurants, hawker stalls, factories, banks, among others.

Ismail also said the authorities nabbed three illegal immigrants and seized one boat/ship as well as five vehicles under Op Benteng. Enforcement set up 607 roadblocks for monitoring yesterday.
