PETALING JAYA:
Senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said police arrested 643 people yesterday over movement control order-related offences.

Of that number, 623 were slapped with compound fines while 20 were remanded.

Ismail said among the offences were failure to wear face masks, crossing districts or states without permission and failing to provide materials for contact tracing or registration.

A total of 4,460 compliance task force teams were deployed to conduct checks on 19,730 supermarkets, restaurants, hawker stalls, factories, banks, among other places.

Ismail also said police arrested 14 illegal immigrants and seized five vehicles under Op Benteng.

He added that 117,449 passengers had arrived through KLIA between July 24 last year and Feb 5 this year from various countries.

A total of 489 people tested positive and were sent to hospital for treatment, 109,361 were allowed to return home and 8,541 are currently undergoing mandatory quarantine.
