In a joint statement, the MPs said the decision was made because federal territories minister Annuar Musa had refused to hold a special meeting with them since he assumed the post in March 2020.
They also said a letter they had sent to Annuar on Dec 7 was still left unanswered. In it, they had objected to certain terms on the set-up of the committee.
The MPs added that their proposed amendments to the committee had also been ignored.
This included the issue of having Residents Representative Council as members in the meeting, although they are only political appointments without the mandate of the people.
“The federal territories minister needs to be aware that the people of Kuala Lumpur have made a very clear choice in the 14th general election by electing us as MPs to represent their voices,” said the statement.
“We urge the minister to respect the mandate and immediately hold a special meeting with us to review and resolve the matters raised previously.”
The statement was signed by Fahmi Fadzil (Lembah Pantai), Teresa Kok (Seputeh), Hannah Yeoh (Segambut), Tan Kok Wai (Cheras), Fong Kui Lun (Bukit Bintang), Dr Tan Yee Kew (Wangsa Maju), Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad (Setiawangsa), P Prabakaran (Batu) and Lim Lip Eng (Kepong).
There are 11 MPs in Kuala Lumpur.
On Jan 6, the nine MPs had released a statement urging Annuar to respond to their queries on the committee, said to be a replacement of the Federal Territories Minister’s Council under the Pakatan Harapan government, after a month-long wait.
They had called on Annuar to organise a special meeting before the first committee meeting was held, saying they had yet to discuss the committee’s terms, as well as the Kuala Lumpur City Hall and federal territory ministry’s budgets for the year.
