432 arrested for MCO-related offences

PETALING JAYA:
Senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said police arrested 432 people yesterday over movement control order-related offences.

Of that number, 414 were slapped with compound fines while 18 were remanded.

Ismail said among the offences were failure to wear a face mask, crossing districts or states without permission and failing to provide materials for contact tracing or registration.

A total of 5,214 compliance task force teams were deployed to conduct checks on 6,207 supermarkets, restaurants, hawker stalls, factories, among other places.

Ismail also said police arrested 27 illegal immigrants and seized two boats and a vehicle under Op Benteng.

He added that 131,455 passengers had arrived through KLIA between July 24 last year and Feb 26 this year from various countries.

A total of 749 people were sent to hospital for treatment, 123,622 allowed to return home and 7,084 are currently undergoing mandatory quarantine.
