PETALING JAYA:
Many Malaysians who travel frequently to China want to receive the Sinovac vaccine, says Khairy Jamaluddin, the minister coordinating the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.

“Sinovac covers 20% (of the Malaysian population). Many who frequently travel to China have asked for the vaccine,” he said in a Twitter post.

Last month, China’s foreign ministry spokesman, Zhao Lijian, said Beijing will relax border restrictions to allow tourists from the region to visit on condition that they have received the Sinovac vaccine developed in the country.

Khairy, who is the science, technology and innovation minister, also said the government may increase its supply of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

“We have obtained enough Pfizer vaccines to cover 50% of the population. It can be increased to 70%,” he said.
