
However, state DAP chief Liew Chin Tong and his deputy, Teo Nie Ching, retained their posts after the 15 selected state committee members decided on the state leadership by consensus.
Liew won 561 votes, while Teo got 577 votes. Both are also former deputy ministers.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali, the state’s former publicity secretary, made it to the top 15 and was made vice-president.
Johor DAP secretary Tan Hong Pin was ousted when he failed to make it to the top 15. He managed to get only 485 votes.
However, his ally, Dr Boo Cheng Hau, who is the former state chairman and not aligned to Liew, took the 14th spot after winning 495 votes. He was appointed as a state committee member.
Vice-chairman S Ramakrishnan, who did not make it to the top 15, was reappointed to the post after being co-opted. He managed to secure only 479 votes.
He was among the five who were co-opted into the committee.
The election today saw three candidates withdraw from the race, namely Lim Yit Tao, Mahdzir Ibrahim and Yap Chee Meng.
