Roadblocks have been set up at the arch marking the Selangor-KL border. Long lines of cars could be seen, with the highway reduced to two lanes while police conducted checks.
Under the current MCO, people are not allowed to travel inter-district except for emergencies, deaths or work purposes. Interstate travel is not allowed nationwide.
Petaling Jaya police chief Mohamad Fakhruddin Abdul Hamid said the roadblocks will be up throughout the MCO period and affect both directions.
“So I want to advise those without important matters to avoid taking these roads, or else there will be traffic jams,” he told FMT when contacted.
The roadblocks will be managed by the Petaling Jaya and Brickfields district headquarters, he added.
Social media was buzzing with pictures and videos of the heavy congestion on the highway, which is among the main roads linking KL and Selangor.
9 roadblocks in KL, 2 more in PJ
Bernama reported that Kuala Lumpur police mounted roadblocks at nine locations beginning today.
Among the locations for the roadblocks are:
- KL-bound lanes of the Federal Highway, Jalan Duta toll plaza and Sungai Besi toll plaza;
- Jalan Sentul Pasar in front of Kepong police station;
- Jalan Klang Lama;
- Jalan 2/27A Wangsa Melawati;
- Jalan 1/91 Taman Shamelin Perkasa; and
- Bukit Jalil highway.
Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Yong Lei Choo said police were tightening the roadblocks to prevent unauthorised inter-district travel.
Fakhruddin said two additional roadblocks would be set up during the MCO period of May 6-17.
They are located at the Federal Highway and Taman Kannagapuram under the New Pantai Expressway. “The roadblock at the Federal Highway began at 4pm today while the one at Taman Kannagapuram will begin at 12.01am (after midnight tonight),” he said in a statement today.
The existing roadblocks in Petaling Jaya are at the toll plazas in Sungai Buloh, Kota Damansara, Damansara and Subang.
