Coordinating minister for the vaccine programme Khairy Jamaluddin said this applies to those who had appointments scheduled on May 15 and 16.
He said this is to avoid overcrowding at the vaccination centre, following the increasing number of daily Covid-19 cases.
“The 2,800 appointments will be rescheduled to a later date from May 17 to 23. They will be informed through the MySejahtera application from tomorrow,” he said at a joint press conference with health minister Dr Adham Baba today.
According to Khairy, a total of 19,000 people were scheduled to receive the AstraZeneca vaccine on May 15 and 16, but this will now be reduced to 16,200.
“The reallocation of dates is much regretted but we are doing it to ensure a safe experience for people going for their vaccination at WTCKL,” he said.
Khairy said the attendance rate for AstraZeneca appointments was currently at 98%, and there were some 60,000 on the waiting list.
He said a daily waiting list would be released by each AstraZeneca vaccination centre, and those on the list would be contacted if there was an available slot for them for that day.
In response to an alleged glitch with the MySejahtera registration system, Khairy stressed that all Covid-19 vaccine registrations were still valid, even if the address was not displayed on their vaccination profile page.
Meanwhile, Adham revealed that the health ministry had recorded a daily average of 3,621 daily cases in the past week.
This was a 18.8% increase in new cases and 23% increase in average active cases from the week before, with the country’s infectivity rate currently at 1.14.
The ministry also recorded a 43.2% rise in the number of reported deaths and a 15.3% increase in cases under intensive care.
Adham said 106 new clusters were detected last week, a 23.3% increase from the previous week. Nearly half were workplace clusters.
