Umno Supreme Council member Razlan Rafii says the home ministry must investigate Chow Kon Yeow for creating an ‘atmosphere of distrust’ towards the federal government.

PETALING JAYA:
Umno Supreme Council member Razlan Rafii has called for an investigation against Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow after he accused the federal government of blocking a donation of two million Sinovac doses to the state which has since been called a “bogus” offer.

At a press conference yesterday, coordinating minister of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme Khairy Jamaluddin said the proposal letter on the vaccine was a “scam” and the government could not establish the legitimacy of the company or identity of the donor.

In a statement today, Razlan called on the home ministry to investigate Chow for “creating an atmosphere of distrust toward the federal government”, adding that “any regular citizen” would be hauled up for questioning if they had done this.

“As explained by Khairy, the donation offered is a scam, and has led to slander and bad sentiments towards the federal government,” he said, accusing Chow of making “wild and irresponsible accusations”.

Razlan also called on de facto law minister Takiyuddin Hassan to see if there was power for him under the emergency ordinance to act against Chow.

He criticised Chow and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng over their allegations against the government, “especially now that we are at a very critical time, with daily Covid-19 cases reaching the figure of 6,000”.

Yesterday, Khairy had expressed disappointment with the duo for “using the vaccine donation issue for their own political needs”.

“I feel extremely disappointed with the chief minister of Penang as well as Guan Eng, who is a former finance minister. They should really know better than to fall for this scam.

“I would urge that vaccinations not be politicised. That was clearly what happened (on Tuesday) at the press conference with Chow and Lim,” he said.

Chow has since asked the “donor or company” to come forward to clear the air over the matter.
