MUDA, the party led by Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, wants a decision on its application for registration.

KUALA LUMPUR:
The High Court here today allowed MUDA, the party led by Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, to challenge the home minister’s inaction in deciding on its application to be registered as a political party.

Judge Noorin Badaruddin granted leave to MUDA for a judicial review today, after senior federal counsel Ahmad Hanir Hambaly @ Arwi and M Kogilambigai, appearing for the ministry and Registrar of Societies (RoS), respectively, said they were not objecting to the party’s legal challenge.

MUDA was represented by Lim Wei Jiet.

The court fixed June 8 for next case management.

MUDA is seeking a court order to compel the minister, Hamzah Zainudin, to make a decision under Section 18 of the Societies Act over the party’s application for registration.

Earlier this year, RoS rejected MUDA’s registration but did not provide specific reasons. The party then filed its appeal to the home minister in February but Hamzah has yet to respond.

RoS has also turned down the application by Pejuang, led by Dr Mahathir Mohamad, for registration.

Pejuang has also filed for a judicial review to compel Hamzah to make a decision on its application and the court will hear the case on Monday.
