“Umno’s stand must be based on the aspirations of the people and solely for the people,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Mohamad stressed that a clear stand is important for a political party, adding that “without a stand, Umno is just a registered party”.
He assured party members that Umno’s stand would not deviate from the priorities of the people, country and party.
“It is definitely in line with the decision of the general assembly,” Umno’s No. 2, better known as Tok Mat, said.
At a Supreme Council meeting last night, Umno officially withdrew its support for Muhyiddin as the prime minister.
Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi also called for Muhyiddin to step down, saying the Perikatan Nasional-led government had failed to fulfil the two requirements the party had set to justify support for the administration.
