More than 100 vehicles are said to have joined in the #Lawan convoys across the nation on Saturday.

KUALA LUMPUR:
Another eight youths have been summoned by police for taking part in Saturday’s #Lawan vehicle convoy in protest against the government.

Numan Afifi of Sekretariat Solidariti Rakyat, the group that organised the protest, said he was among the four who were questioned for three hours at the Brickfields district police station today.

Several more protesters have also been summoned by the Dang Wangi and Kajang police to give their statements over the convoy later today. In total, more than 30 youths from the protest have been called in.

They are being investigated under Section 21 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342) and Rule 17(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Regulations 2021 for failing to comply with Covid-19 SOPs.

Numan said some protesters’ parents were also summoned as they were the owners of the cars that were driven during Saturday’s protest.

He questioned the purpose of the investigation, claiming it was an “obvious intimidation tactic”.

“This is ridiculous. We’ve been here for three hours and the law minister just said that the emergency ordinances were (annulled) since July 21, so what are we doing here?” he asked.

Numan said there were other crimes for public servants to concentrate their resources on.

“This is wasting our time and wasting public resources. The police have more immediate or urgent things to investigate,” he said.

It was estimated that more than 100 vehicles had joined in the convoys across the country from 11am to 5pm on Saturday.

In Kuala Lumpur, at least 10 cars were seen waving black flags and driving in a convoy in the morning. They started from the Bangsar LRT station and headed towards Dataran Merdeka before driving back to the same LRT station.
