Ipoh Timur MP Wong Kah Woh said Ahmad Faizal Azumu had distinguished himself as the first Perak menteri besar daring enough to face a vote of confidence in the state assembly.

PETALING JAYA:
Ahmad Faizal Azumu should advise his party president Muhyiddin Yassin to have his support tested in Parliament, just as the former Perak menteri besar had done in November, says an MP.

Ipoh Timur MP Wong Kah Woh was responding to reports of Faizal, who is also the Bersatu deputy president, denying that Parliament was postponed due to fears of the government’s stability, saying he “cannot be more wrong”.

“It is clear that Covid-19 was only used as an excuse for the prime minister to hide from having a parliamentary sitting on Monday, despite the fact that the government had already arranged for a five-day sitting well designed not to have any session for voting,” he said in a statement.

According to him, Faizal was “definitely a better man” compared to Muhyiddin as the former menteri besar had not blocked a motion of confidence against him in the Perak state assembly last year.

“He may have lost that confidence vote and resigned, but he has marked himself as the first Perak menteri besar who was daring enough to face a confidence vote in the state assembly.”

Wong also said the country needed to resolve the current constitutional crisis immediately, adding that it cannot be prolonged just to save Muhyiddin’s political position.

Faizal was ousted by a confidence vote in the Perak state assembly last November. He was defeated by 48 votes to 10, with one abstention, leading to his resignation.
