The MPs said Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin can call for an earlier meeting of the Dewan Rakyat under Standing Order 11(3) to table, debate and decide on the motion of confidence.
In a statement, they said it was unacceptable that this issue was being put off until September.
“It is highly unreasonable for a government, whose legitimacy and majority support is under question, to delay this process in Parliament,” they said.
The MPs said the question of government stability must be resolved now, taking into account the Covid-19 situation in the country, where the number of deaths has continued to rise every day and the economic situation in the country continues to languish.
“Therefore, we are of the view that the motion of confidence must be tabled, discussed and decided now, thus ending the issue of the legitimacy of the prime minister,” they said.
The statement was issued by PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, Warisan president Shafie Apdal, Pejuang president Mukhriz Mahathir, Upko president Wilfred Madius Tangau, former Sarawak PKR chief Baru Bian, MUDA co-founder Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and Simpang Renggam MP Maszlee Malik.
Earlier today, Muhyiddin announced he was not resigning although Umno and other opposition parties are pushing him to do so.
Muhyiddin said he was aware that his position as prime minister had always been questioned. He said he had informed the King that he would determine the legitimacy of his position in Parliament through a motion of confidence when the Dewan Rakyat reconvenes in September.
