
Its president, Abdul Hadi Awang, also said the party remains committed to Muhyiddin, saying it wants to reinforce the “unity among us”.
“I said we will continue to be together in good times and in bad,” he said in a Facebook post today, referring to a telephone conversation he had with the Bersatu president.
Hadi also said he had offered Muhyiddin words of encouragement.
The Islamic party was among Muhyiddin’s staunchest supporters, often coming to the Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration’s defence.
This included when the PN government sparked controversy after revoking the emergency ordinances last month, which not only led to a royal rebuke but also accelerated calls for Muhyiddin to resign.
Back then, it said it would continue to stand by Muhyiddin and “support every decision made by the Cabinet”.
PAS also declared it would continue to back Muhyiddin and his administration when Umno retracted support for the PN government.
Muhyiddin resigned as prime minister this morning following the loss of his parliamentary majority. He remains as caretaker prime minister until his successor is appointed.
