In a statement, BN secretary-general Zambry Abd Kadir stated his concern over what has been happening in Afghanistan, particularly the humanitarian crisis there which he said was worsening.
“BN suggests that the Malaysian government take the initiative immediately by calling for OIC countries to hold a special meeting.
“As a neutral and reputable Islamic nation, Malaysia has its own influence in reaching a consensus in the OIC in matters related to Afghanistan’s future,” he said.
Zambry also urged the government to make early communications with the Taliban delegation in Doha, Qatar to ease the delivery of humanitarian aid to Afghans should the need arise.
“At the same time, BN is of the view that any recognition of the Taliban can only be considered in line with the stand of the international community.
“The Malaysian government must follow the tenets and principles of international relationships that we have held over the years in recognising any government or regime. There can be no special exemptions in the case of the Taliban.”
Previously, a PAS leader congratulated the newly-established Taliban-led government of Afghanistan on social media for “successfully achieving victory” for their country, only to delete the post a short while later.
PAS international affairs and external relations committee chairman Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi said the Taliban had successfully freed their homeland from “the clutches of colonialism”.
Khalil, who is also Batu Buruk assemblyman and son of party president Abdul Hadi Awang, said with the victory, he hoped that all stakeholders would work together and reach an agreement to put Afghanistan back on track.
While the tweet was removed from his Twitter account, his original statement can still be found on HarakahDaily.
