He made the announcement in a Twitter post today, urging all Malaysians to continue their efforts in complying with the SOPs to combat the pandemic.
According to the special committee on vaccine access, as of midnight Malaysia had vaccinated 79.6% of the adult population.
However, going by Ismail’s tweet, that final 0.4% has now been achieved.
Based on last night’s statistics, the Klang Valley (107%), Labuan (98%), Negeri Sembilan (94.3%), Sarawak (89.1%) and Perlis (84.9%) had already reached this milestone, with Terengganu (78.6%) and Melaka (77.9%) not far away. Figures above 100% indicate that non-residents and migrants have been included in the numbers.
The 80% figure has long been touted as the benchmark for the success of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme, which began in late February.
Now, in the next phase of vaccinations, the government will begin to vaccinate teens for the first time, aiming to have 80% of them fully immunised by the start of the next school year in March 2022.
In addition, booster jabs will also begin to roll out to high-risk groups, including healthcare workers and elderly people with comorbidities.
