KUALA LUMPUR:
The High Court here has allowed Muda, a party formed by former youth and sports minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, to proceed with a judicial review against the government’s refusal to register it as a political party.

Judge Noorin Badaruddin granted the leave application in her chambers today.

The Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC), representing the Registrar of Societies (RoS) and home minister Hamzah Zainudin, did not raise any objection against Muda’s application.

The court set Oct 5 for further case management.

In its application, Muda sought a court order to revoke the decision made by Hamzah to reject its application last month.

The party claimed that Hamzah, in rejecting their registration, had failed to comply with provisions under the Societies Act.

Muda is also seeking a court order compelling the government to register it as a political party.

The RoS had rejected Muda’s registration earlier this year but did not provide any specific reason for the decision.

Muda subsequently made a personal appeal to Hamzah but it was also rejected without any reason.
